Back to News 5 Years of Impact: AACN’s Foundation for Academic Nursing Tuesday, August 12, 2025 | Foundation Grants & Funding, Membership In 2020, AACN launched the Foundation for Academic Nursing to guide its philanthropic work and advance initiatives aligned with AACN’s mission and vision. Over the past five years, the Foundation has successfully secured and administered an array of grants and scholarships while delivering value to AACN’s member schools by supporting students and faculty. One of the first initiatives launched by the Foundation was the Faculty Scholars Grant Program, which will be distributing its sixth round of funding this fall. The foundation is looking to support faculty projects focused on the integration of health policy into the nursing curriculum and the use of artificial intelligence in nursing education. Over the last five years, the Foundation has distributed $250,000 to 10 nurse scholars at AACN member schools. Learn more about past recipients and their research, including links to on-demand webinars about their work. Raising funds to continue to support faculty research and scholarship is a priority for the Foundation. In the last few years, the Foundation has added several new scholarships for nursing students. Currently, there are seven corporate-sponsored scholarships offered through the Foundation for undergraduate and graduate nursing students with an eighth scholarship from our background check partner, Certiphi, opening soon. Increasing the number of scholarships for nursing students at AACN member schools is a priority for the Foundation. In addition, the Foundation supports leading initiatives at AACN by soliciting and securing grant funding. Since the Foundation was established, AACN has received over $3 million in grants. Thirty member schools have received more than $1.8 million in funding through our grant-supported projects, including initiatives focused on the implementation of the 2021 Essentials.
